First UK-Angola Investment Forum 24th May 2012
On 24th May 2012, at IET: Savoy Place, London, Developing Markets Associates in association with the Embassy of Angola in the UK, hosted the first UK-Angola Investment Forum.
This very timely and well received event was attended by around 300 delegates including key stakeholders and high level representatives from both the public and private sectors, including a delegation from the Government of Angola.
Opening addresses were given by Atam Sandhu, Chief Executive of Developing Markets Associates; HE Miguel Neto, Angolan Ambassador to the UK; and Lord Marland, Parliamentary Secretary of State for the Department of Energy & Climate Change and Chairman of UK Trade & Investment’s Business Ambassadors’ Group, UK Government. The opening session provided an overview of Angola's investment climate and included presentations from HE Dr Manuel Augusto, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Government of the Republic of Angola; Maria Luísa Abrantes, CEO, Angola Agency for Private Investment (ANIP); Alan Martin, Angola Chief Financial Officer, BP Exploration (Angola) Limited and Pieter van Welzen, Partner, Clifford Chance. The session was chaired by John Flynn, Political Advisor, Chevron. Further sessions on the Energy and Mining sector(s); the Infrastructure sector; and investment in key sectors, included presentations from HE Syanga Abilio, Deputy Minister for Environment, Government of the Republic of Angola; Paulo Pizzaro, VP Communications & External Affairs, BP; HE Manuel Clemente Jùnior, Vice Minister for Construction, Government of the Republic of Angola; João Samuel Caholo, Deputy Executive Secretary, Southern African Development Community (SADC); Pedro Calixto, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers (Angola); Aurélien Mali, Vice President Senior Analyst, Moodys; amongst others. The sessions were chaired by China Danforth Onyemelukwe, Managing Director, Investment Banking Division, Goldman Sachs International; Dr Emanuel Gomes, Lecturer in Strategy and International Business MSc International Business Director, University of Sheffield; and Roger Martin, Director, Africa, Developing Markets Associates. Following the Closing Remarks a Sponsors' Dinner was held at the Waldorf Hotel.
