Lebanon Trade and Investment Mission 2019

MISSION SYNOPSIS

In partnership with the British Embassy in Beirut and Lebanese Embassy in London, DMA took a high-level business delegation to Lebanon on 17-18 June 2019. The busy programme was expertly organised by Investment Development Agency of Lebanon (IDAL).  The mission was focussed on infrastructure opportunities around the Lebanese Government's US$17Bn infrastructure development programme.  Major UK participants included Arup, MottMac & G4S; as well as the Lebanese British Business Council (LebBBC) and BCTC.

Day 1 included business briefings by the British Embassy, IDAL and Lebanese business leaders.  The afternoon was spent in a series of meetings at the Prime Minister's Office in detailed discussions of progress towards contracting airport, electricity and other major projects.  Bilateral meetings were also organised for some delegation members.

Day 2 included site visits and meetings at major infrastructure sites, including Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport, the impressive Beirut Container Terminal; as well as a visit to Lebanon's second city to engage on the ambitious development plans for the Tripoli Special Economic Zone to become a regional hub.

HMA Chris Rampling kindly hosted the delegation on the first evening to thank the delegation mission sponsors; BCTC and Middle East Airlines, and to facilitate key business introductions.
