UK-Cameroon Trade & Investment Forum 2014

On May 7th, at Church House, London, Developing Markets Associates (DMA) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in association with the Government of the Republic of Cameroon hosted the UK-Cameroon Trade & Investment Forum.

This highly acclaimed event was attended by over 500 delegates including key stakeholders and high level representatives from both the public and private sector.



Opening addresses were given by Atam Sandhu, Chief Executive of Developing Markets Associates, HE Nkwelle Ekaney, Cameroon High Commissioner to the UK and Mark Simmonds MP, Foreign Office Minister for Africa. HE Philemon Yang, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of Cameroon then gave a keynote address.



The opening session, chaired by Henry Bellingham MP, Former Minister for Africa, provided an overview of the investment climate in Cameroon and included presentations from HE Emmanuel Nganour Djoumessi, Minister of Economy, Planning & Regional Development; HE Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of Finance; Donatus Boma, Deputy General Manager, Investment Promotion Agency (IPA); Pauline Nguene, President, CARPA; David Cowan, Managing Director, Citi; Jason White, Exploration Manager Cameroon, Dana Petroleum; and Guilio Casello, Chief Executive, Sundance Resources.



The following two sessions provided an overview of investment opportunities in Infrastructure & Energy and Extractives. These sessions were chaired by HE Brian Olley, British High Commissioner to Cameroon and Isabella da Costa Mendes, Managing Director, Head of London and Africa Solutions, Renaissance Capital. The audience enjoyed presentations from HE Basile Atangana Kouna, Minister of Water Resources & Energy; HE Patrice Amba Salla, Minister of Public Works; Christophe Jacquin, Chief Executive, Aggreko; Mikael Karlsson, Chief Executive, Globeleq; David Grylls, Partner, Actis; Francois Delenclos, Vice President Strategy & Business Development, APM Terminals; Peter Briger, Chief Executive, Hydromine; HE Emmanuel Bonde, Minister of Mines, Industry & Technological Development; Ewen Denning, Head of Upstream Operations, Glencore Oil; Anton Mauve, Managing Director, West African Minerals; Ousmane Kane, Chief Executive, International Mining & Infrastructure Corporation; and Kevin Hart, Chief Executive, Bowleven.



The fourth and final session provided an overview of investment opportunities in Agriculture & Key Sectors and was co-chaired by Peter Hain MP, Former British Cabinet Minister and Eric Guichard, Chief Executive, Homestrings. Presentations were made by HE Essimi Menye, Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development; HE Bello Bouba Maigari, Minister of State, Minister of Tourism & Leisure; HE Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, Minister of Small & Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy & Handicraft; and Christophe Eken, President of Cameroon Chamber of Commerce.

Closing remarks were given by HE Philemon Yang, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of Cameroon before guests were invited to take part in a gala reception.
