UK-Senegal Trade and Investment Forum 2013
On June 17th, at Merchant Taylors' Hall, London, Developing Markets Associates (DMA) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in association with the Government of the Republic of Senegal hosted the UK-Senegal Trade and Investment Forum.
This very well-received event was attended by over 400 delegates including key stakeholders and high level representatives from both the public and private sector.
Opening addresses were given by Atam Sandhu, Chief Executive of Developing Markets Associates, HMA John Marshall, UK Ambassador to Senegal, HE Abdou Sourang, Senegalese Ambassador to the UK & Ireland, Henry Bellingham MP, Director, Developingmarkets Associates and HE Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal.
The opening session, chaired by Henry Bellingham MP, Non- Executive Director of Developing Markets Associates, provided an overview of the investing in in Senegal and included presentations from Aubin Sagna, Secretary General, Ministry of Infrastructure, Aida Wane, Managing Director, Senegal Investment Promotion Agency and Yves Coffi Quam-Dessou, Director general, Ecobank Senegal.
The following sessions provided an overview of investment opportunities in Agriculture and Agri-Processing was chaired by Leon Isaacs, Managing Director, IAMTN. Presentations given in these sessions were from Maimouma Lo Gueye, Secretary General, Ministry of Agriculture, Mouhamadou Niang, Head of Natural Resources, Industries & Services Division, African Development Bank and Jon Barfoot, Commercial Director of Barfoots.
The next session provided an overview of investing in Energy, Mines and Infrastructure and was chaired by Professor Paul Collier, CBE, Professor of Economics and Director for the Centre for the Study of African Economies. Presentation were made by, Hon Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, Minister of energy and Mines, Martin Horgan, Chief Executive, Toro Gold, Rogers Beall, Chairman, Africa Fortesa Corp, John Cole-Baker, Director, Stratex International, Mark Coetzee, Project Executive, Senegal Mineral Resources and Stephane Brabant, Partner, energy and Infrastructure from Herbert Smith Freehills.
